It's Almost Time for the Superbowl: Renting Out Your House!

This post was also published as a guest post to Second Shelters!

Superbowl XLV comes to town next year and Arlington is faced with a slight problem: very few places for visitors to stay! Hotels and Inns are scarce in the part of Arlington when the new Dallas Cowboys stadium is located; the few located within minutes from the stadium are already and have been sold out for a while.

So, many north Texas residents have the ability to advantage of a Superbowl-only opportunity: rent out your house or estate to Superbowl visitors that need a place to stay. In order to do so, residents must submit information about their home and a few pictures. In return, Superbowl visitors looking for a place to stay can browse through an assortment of homes available to them: very simple concept!

Not only does it provide visitors a place to stay, but the residents also receive a big payoff. Depending on several details, like length in miles away from the stadium and square footage, the rental homes have the ability to make $1,000 a day all the way up to nearly $20,000+ a day for the mansions in close proximity to the stadium.

I have a friend who is pondering the issue. He lives in a 7,500 sq. foot home about 10 miles away from the stadium. The home is located inside a prestigious gated community and is perfect for corporate and executive visitors. If he does choose to rent out his house, he will need to collect all valuable and important possessions throughout the house and take them to a storage or safe keeping. Couches, beds, kitchen supplies, and other household items will be left in the home for the visitors. This may seem like a hassle, right? Well...

I asked him, “So you would want people you don't know sleeping in YOUR bed?!”. He replied, “John, I have been told corporates and executives would pay a minimum $10,000 a day to rent out my home: I could just go buy a new bed!”

Very true, indeed.

Another example. There is a stunning 9,000 sq. foot Normandy Mansion in Colleyville, Texas that will rent up to $10,000 a day. That's a pretty penny for one day, but imagine if the home were closer to the stadium; the price per day would skyrocket!

In order to rent out your home, of course, you must feel comfortable with outsiders living inside your estate for several days. But remember...it is a BIG payoff in the end. Would you do it?
